2019: Atiku to visit Obasanjo after intervention of Afenifere leaders

Atiku was Obasanjo’s vice president for 8 years while the latter presided over the country between 1999-2007.

Both men fell out after Atiku tried to succeed Obasanjo in office, but the former president preferred the late Umaru Musa Yar’adua.

The visit to Obasanjo would be the first time the former president would meet with his former deputy since the latter emerged as presidential candidate of the PDP.

Though Obasanjo had in the past vowed not to ever support Atiku’s long nurtured presidential aspiration, there is expectation that the former president may unbend upon his even more harsh assessment of the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari.

Meanwhile, the national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, recently met with Atiku alongside other party leaders to determine a running mate for the 2019 presidential candidate.

Atiku was mandated to submit to the party a list of his preferred candidates as running mates to enable the party to discuss it with him.
